Nagaland signs PPA with Tvaksas Renewable Pvt Ltd

Kohima, August 21 (MExN): The Department of Power, Nagaland, and M/s Tvaksas Renewable Pvt Ltd on Friday signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the development of a 20 MW solar power plant at Tizit, in Mon district.

This will be the fourth private-sector solar initiative in Nagaland and is proposed to be set up at Lapa Lampong Village, Tizit, under Mon district, according to a DIPR report.

The agreement was formalised at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat conference hall, Kohima in the presence of senior officials, including the Principal Secretary (Power), Chief Engineer (T&G), Chief Engineer (D&R), and representatives from the Finance, Law & Justice departments, along with the developers.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Engineer (T&G), Er Nitovi A Wotsa, highlighted that the state’s current peak power demand stands at 203 MW and is projected to surge to 482 MW by 2034-35. He stated that the government is actively working to enhance generation capacity, both through state-owned projects and by encouraging private-sector participation to bridge the growing demand-supply gap.

The Principal Secretary (Power) emphasised the urgency of augmenting generation capacity and noted that solar energy is particularly suited for Nagaland due to its sub-tropical location and good solar irradiance. Unlike hydro, wind, or thermal systems, solar projects have no moving mechanical parts and require a short gestation period, he pointed out.

He urged the developer to expedite the project’s completion, adding that it would not only boost renewable energy generation but also help the state meet its Renewable Consumption Obligations (RCO). He also appealed to the company to provide employment opportunities to local residents during both construction and operational phases.

The project directors, Bhakti Dave, Hardik Dave, and Nayaan Ratandhayara presented the detailed implementation roadmap.
