DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 1 (MExN): The 21 former NPF MLAs who merged with the NDPP in April this year have demanded an apology from the NPCC President, K Therie if he fails to substantiate his claims and “defamatory charges” against them.
The NPCC President had claimed that the 21 NPF MLAs who had merged with NDPP have received Rs 2.50 crores each that have been deducted from the MGNREGA fund meant for developmental activities in the villages.
In letter to the NPCC President, MLA Dr Chumben Murry on behalf of the 21 MLAS informed that the legislators had a meeting on August 16 to “deliberate and find the truth behind the allegations.” “It has been confirmed from each member that no one has received Rs 2.50 Crores either by cash or blank cheque as alleged by you in your consecutive press releases published on 22nd July 2022 and 7th August 2022,” it said.
“While we have on July 29 through press release sought from you to give evidence of your allegations, rather than giving any sort of proof you have sarcastically stated that you ‘did not have any evidence because of blank cheque system.’
This statement has only aggravated the situation and your wild allegations continue to be damaging and tantamount to character assassinations,” the letter stated.
It said that the MLAs have no qualms if the NPCC President checks the system and governmental departments and pointing out the corrupt practices. However, the legislators said that making wild allegations without evidence is totally uncalled for, especially from a veteran politician.
“Having been an elected member of NLA yourself, you should understand very well the negative impact that such false allegations have on members and if you had been in our shoes, you would also find it hard to swallow such charges leveled against you without any truth behind it,” they said.
The MLAs asked the NPCC President to “issue an apology in the same platform you have used to level the false charges and rest the matter once and for all in true gentleman spirit.” “Failing to comply with our request, we would be constrained to initiate defamatory proceedings in the Court of Law and all the legal and financial consequences shall be borne by you,” they added.
