Creating a history of its sort, the Nagaland Health & Family Welfare department today delivered the vision of the National Rural Health Mission to reality by providing 22 ambulances to community health centers (CHCs) across the state. Undoubtedly, this package has been the answer to the long-felt demand of many CHCs for the last many years, as transportation problems continue to be a stumbling block in delivering quality health services to the poor and downtrodden, especially in the rural areas.

Addressing the ‘flagging off’ ceremony here this morning at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, a visibly elated minister for Health & Family Welfare Kuzholuzo Nienu said such a package has inspired the department to move a step forward in delivering better healthcare to the people.

Similar packages from the Government of India have been received well, Nienu said and that, the latest is perhaps the largest number of ambulances launched at one time in the history of the state. Terming the launch of 22 ambulances as a “landmark in the history of the state’s health department”, Nienu hoped it would go a long way in transforming the health scenario in Nagaland.

Also speaking at the occasion, Commissioner & Secretary for Health & Family Welfare, Menukhol John, expressed optimism that the provided ambulances would enhance healthcare delivery coverage in the state and be a blessing to the poor and needy. The ambulances will also be made accessible to primary health centres in the days to come.
