Chümoukedima, June 26 (MExN): The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Chümoukedima has issued a public notice seeking the biological parents, legal guardian or any lawful claimant of an abandoned newborn boy found in the district earlier this week.

According to the notice issued by District Child Protection Officer Nikito Zhimomi, the male infant, estimated to be about three days old, was found on June 24 at the local ground of 5th Mile Model Village in Chümoukedima.

The child was subsequently produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Chümoukedima, under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, the notice said.

The department has appealed to any person claiming to be the child's biological parent, legal guardian or having any lawful claim over the infant to contact the District Child Protection Unit or appear before the Child Welfare Committee with valid documentary proof within the period prescribed under law.

The notice stated that if no lawful claimant comes forward within 60 days from the date of publication of the notice, further action will be taken in accordance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the Adoption Regulations, 2022.
