2,99,609 ration card holders in Nagaland

Nagaland’s Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also minister incharge of food & civil supplies informed that there are 2, 99, 609 ration card holders in Nagaland as on June 2021. He was replying this to MLA Chotisuh Sazo in unstarred question at the 8th session of 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on August 3.

Aadhaar card is required as a proof of identify to obtain a ration card. It is used as a requisite document, in conformity with the Section 12, (2) (C) of the National Food Security Act, 2013 and Section 7 of Aadhaar Act, 2016 and clarification of the interpretation of section 7 (Para 447 (2) (m) page 555 of the Judgment of Supreme Court of India, dated 26th September 2018. However, the department is still issuing rice to those old beneficiaries without Aadhaar so as not to deprive them of their entitlement and thus, giving them time for the Aadhaar enrolment till 30th September 2021. The monthly allocation of rice to Nagaland is 76321.10 Qtls.
