29th MDCA cricket tourney: Skylark, A&K set up title clash

Mokokchung, March 3 (MExN): Skylark CC and A&K Cricket Fraternity today entered the finals of the ongoing MDCA inter Club T20 Cricket Tournament at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.

Skylark became the first team to qualify for the finals after defeating the last year's champions Sovran CC in the first match.

Chasing 106 runs for victory, Skylark rode on a brilliant batting performance by Santosh 59 runs, in 39 balls and made it home by 8 wickets. 

Earlier, winning the toss and opting to bat, Sovran got off to a shaky start, losing their 4-top order batsmen with just 26 runs on the scoreboard. 

Aloto, who finished with 3 for 17 in 4 overs, was the pick of the bowlers. For Sovran, Temjenrenba contributed 27 runs. 

In the second semi-final, newcomer A&K trumped over Titans CC in low scoring thriller.  

Batting first, Titans were bowled out for just 105 runs, Arjun  topping the scoreboard with 36 runs. 

On the bowling side, Odiyanger was most successful, bagging 4 wickets for 22 runs in 3.4 overs. A&K’s Nripen also took 3 wickets.

Chasing the small target, A&K lost their opening batsman Talikaba early with just 5 runs on the board.

However, with a match winning innings of 39 runs, Nripen partnered with Nihal, to stabilise the proceedings. Nihal contributed 26 vital runs.

There were some tense movements when both Nihal and Nripen’s wickets fell, but a last wicket partnership took their team to the final. 

Arjun and Chubameren gave Titans a good chance of winning but the team were found wanting in fielding department.

The former took 3 wickets, conceding 23 runs in 4 overs while the latter bagged 3 wickets giving away just 6 runs in the process. 

The Titans dropped a vital catch when the opponents needed two runs with the final wicket and the match slipped away from them. 

Nripen was named the Man of the Match for his all-round performance. 

The final of the 29th edition organised by the Titans Club under the aegis of the Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA) will be played at the same venue from 10AM on March 4.
