Defending champs Sovran off to winning start

The 29th Mokokchung District Cricket Association (MDCA) Inter-club Cricket Tournament 2021 started on Tuesday at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
The tournament was inaugurated by Shashank Pratap Singh, ADC Mokokchung, who applauded the MDCA for organizing the tournament for more than 25 years.
In his speech, he said that cricket or any sport is more than a game that instills a uniting force within the team and among the participating teams. He added that sports bring out the best within oneself to perform better; build team spirit and sportsmanship qualities among the players.
He further urged the players and MDCA officials to strive for excellence rather than focusing only on regular tournaments.
Sovran beat Royal Strikers
The inaugural match played between defending Champions Sovran and new entrant Royal Strikers was witnessed by NCA Vice President, Herato Sukhalu and MDCA officials.
Electing to bat first, Royal Strikers posted a knock of 119/7 in 20 overs.
Temsuwati 51/59 balls and Impochang 21/21 balls consolidated Strikers’ score while Temsulong, Alemsashi and Imtinuksung collected 2 wickets each in first inning.
Replying to 119/7, the defending Champions reached the target in 19.1 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Imlikaba and Merenchemba produced Sovran’s highest combined score of 66 runs out of 67 balls. The wickets of Sovran were collected by Imliwapang (3) and Toshiwapang (2) while Bendangakum and Temsuwati picked one each.
This year, ten teams are participating in the tournament organized by the Titans Club under the aegis of the MDCA.
