2nd Aphuyemi Cup kicks off in Pughoboto Town

Pughoboto, March 3 (MExN): The 2nd edition of Aphuyemi Cup started on Tuesday at local ground, Pughoboto Town with MLA, Y Vikheho Swu as the special guest under the theme, ‘Running towards Excellency.’

In his speech, Vikheho recalled how football was popularized and developed in Pughoboto area in the earlier days and even produced state players.

However, he rued that the sport had not come up to the mark as per the expectations of those pioneers and urged all concerned to put in more efforts in the field.

He lauded the Aphuyemi Club for organizing the event and expressed hope that prominent players would be produced through the event.

Vikheho urged the players not to play selfishly but as a team. “In sports, nothing can be achieved by being parachuted but needs intensive coaching and hardwork for years,” he said, and encouraged the players to put in hard work and discipline.

He appealed to the people of Pughoboto area to extend their support and cooperation towards development of football in the area.
The tournament will conclude on March 7.
