
Dimapur, November 3 (MExN): The 2nd Liangmai folk song competition 2021 organised in virtual mode by Liangmai Foundation concluded on October 31. Liangmai Foundation is a tribal based research group founded mainly by the Liangmais in Manipur and Nagaland, the organizing committee stated in a press release.
In the male category, the winners were as follows 1st Hutonbou Mataina, Kuilong; 2nd Pingdin, Nzau; and 3rd Kaidauping, Jalukie B while in the female category the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners were Disurailiu, Kuilong; Wijotniliu, Rienta; and Wikhonlungliu, Chiang respectively.
The first three winners were awarded Rs 5000, Rs.4000 and Rs 3000 in both the categories. All the participants were also awarded Rs 500 each.
In this 2021 edition, 59 singers participated from Nagaland and Manipur. All the video songs are available on Liangmai Foundation YouTube channel. The songs will be further transcribed, translated, annotated, and submitted at any digital archive for a long lasting preservation, it stated.
An online meeting for the prize declaration of the competition cum special talk on oral tradition was conducted on October 30. A special talk entitled ‘Save your oral tradition and stay away from cultural amnesia’ was delivered by Professor Anvita Abbi, linguist and a champion in documentation and description of endangered languages and minority languages.
