Chozuba, July 4 (MExN): The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC)-cum-Executive Officer of the Chozuba Town Council has imposed a total ban on the use of single-use plastic (SUP) items across the Chozuba Town Council jurisdiction and all areas under Chozuba sub-division with immediate effect.
In an official order, ADC Zapuno Khatso said the ban would be implemented in accordance with notifications issued by the Urban Development Department (UDD) between 2018 and 2022.
Under the order, all plastic carry bags, with or without handles and irrespective of thickness or size, have been prohibited.
The ban also covers plastic cutlery, including plates, cups, forks, spoons and straws, as well as Styrofoam (Thermocol) cutlery and decorative items, polythene, nylon, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene and polystyrene products.
The order further prohibits the use of flex banners, boards and posters by government departments, institutions and agencies during official functions and programmes, in line with a UDD notification issued on December 6, 2020.
Other banned items include ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, thermocol used for decoration, plastic trays, stirrers, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards and cigarette packets, and PVC banners with a thickness of less than 100 microns.
The notification also reiterates the ban on packaged drinking water in plastic bottles below 20-litre capacity for use during meetings, functions, seminars and personal consumption, as stipulated in the UDD notification dated November 29, 2018.
The administration said the ban would be enforced strictly throughout the Chozuba sub-division with immediate effect.
