2nd Nagaland State Futsal Championship commences

The 2nd edition of the Nagaland State Futsal Championship commenced here at Reiphinyü Badze, Vürie, T Khel Model Village today. 

Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C, IAS & Chairman for Kohima District Sports Council who was the special guest at the inaugural function, said that Nagas have great potential in endurance games like football, badminton and table tennis. He urged the players not to sit back and relax but rather work hard and make it to the national and international games.

With the collective effort of the district administration, state government and sports associations, he said that players can make it to bigger platforms outside the state. 

He said athletes were some of the most disciplined people who maintain a healthy lifestyle. So, he urged the players to avoid tabacco products and maintain strict lifestyle. 

Shanavas also urged the players to do their best and challenged them to gracefully embrace failures along with success. 

Hosted by Kohima District Football Association (KDFA), the tournament is being organized through Competition Management System’s (CMS) of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), 8 clubs representing 8 districts are vying for the trophy.

With eight teams representing eight districts vying for the trophy, 8 league matches were played today.

During the first match, Aphuyemi FC Zunheboto won by 9_2 against Proper V FC Mon; Nimok Power Phek won by 6-4 against Vanguard FC Tseminyu in the 2nd match; Kesko FC won with 5 goals against 1 goal from G-Sports; Zasivi FC scored 8 against Lengreng FC scoring 3 goals; in the 5th match Aphuyemi FC with 6 goals against Kesko FC with 3 goals; Zasivi FC defeated Nimok Power FC 3 by 2; Proper V FC defeated G-Sports with 6 by 2 goals and in the final match Vanguard FC defeated Lengreng FC 5-4.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome, President KDFA and K Neibou Sekhose, President NFA delivered greetings. 

The Champion of the tournament will receive Rs 1 Lakh and win a direct entry in representing the state at the National Futsal Tournament and Runners up will receive Rs. 50 Thousand.
