Setting greater standards for the game of football in the state, the 2nd Nagaland State Futsal Championship is all set to commence on October 7 at one of the newest turf ground in the state capital, Reiphinyü Badze, Vürie, T Khel Model Village through Competition Management System’s (CMS) of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
All the clubs participating in the championship will be registered under the Central Registration System (CRS).
With eight teams representing eigjht districts vying for the trophy, Aphuyemi FC from Zunheboto District, Nimok Power FC, Phek, Proper V FC Mon, Vanguard FC, Tseminyu, Kesko FC, Dimapur, Zasivi FC, Kohima, G-Sports FC, Chümoukedima and Lengreng FC, Peren, the winner of this tournament will win a direct entry in representing the state at the National Futsal Tournament.
Informing on why only eight teams were participating this year, the organizers said this year a time frame for registration was given till September 30 where only eight teams turned up on time. A seminar was organized on CMS and CRS under AIFF and the 8 teams confirmed earlier, were already granted access for the tournament.
Few teams that came forward were however late and could not through the registration due to deadline of the time which without central registration, entry was not possible in the competition management system which are both technical in nature.
“It is in some way a blessing for us since it is the first time, Nagaland Football Association (NFA) is conducting a tournament under the CMS of the AIFF and the team that emerges champion of this tournament will represent Nagaland in the national futsal championship as per the slot alloted to the state of Nagaland,” NFA Official said during a press conference held here in Kohima today.
As observed, the organizers said that in Futsal, although the state has started late, Nagaland has better scope than the real football and the advantage is the direct entry to the final round of the national tournament which has better chance of getting selected in the national team.
As compared, Nagaland State is ahead of many state given the fact that it registration for entry are done through CMS and CRS process.
It will be played in league matches which will be divided into two groups, the fixtures of which were picked today during the press conference.
The host of this year’s edition Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) and on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee thanked the Nagaland Football Association for giving opportunity to host the state event. The team hoped that it will uplift the upcoming young footballers.
The tournament will take place for 4 days from October 7 to 10.
During the inaugural function tomorrow, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Shanavas C, IAS & Chairman for Kohima District Sports Council will be the special guest.
The Champion of the tournament will receive Rs 1 Lakh and Runners up will receive Rs. 50 Thousand.
The organizers during the presser announced upcoming events which will be held after the tournament, among which were Northeast Olympics, Santosh Trophy and National Futsal Tournament which is likely to be held in November first week, this year.
“We are organizing coaching for junior and senior teams. Right after the tournament, there will be a final round of selection. A coaching camp will also be held on this regard and courses will be brought from the mainland where national coaches will come and train the players and coaches and referee. The focus is now more on the juniors which will be looking at grassroot development,” the organizers said.
