Dimapur, March 10 (MExN): Dimapur district conducted the second round of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) on March 10. A total of 507 Polio booths with 4 members of health personnel each were set up across the district, emphasing on all strategic points to give coverage to 53,167 children of 0-5 years, with 100 supervisors for monitoring and supervisory visits. House-to- House polio immunization programme will continue for another two days for those children who missed the Polio Sunday Program. The department acknowledged the constant support and co-operation from all the local news dailies and various other NGOs and volunteers for the successful implementation of the programme.
Longleng: Longleng district started the second round of IPPI today, which is scheduled until March 13. Altogether 75 booths were set up in the district to cover 7,083 children in the age group of 0-5 years. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, T. Wati Aier, administered the first drops of polio to the children at Lempong Junction IPPI booth.
The Chief medical officer, Longleng conveyed his gratitude to Additional Deputy Commissioner Longleng, 31 Assam Rifles Company Commander Longleng, and all the staff under CMO office and MS District Hospital establishment for their assistance and smooth conduct.
Mokokchung: Second round of IPPI was launched at Imlong Place on Sunday by Chubawati Chang ADC, Mokokchung.Speaking at the launch, Chubawati Chang reminded that though India is free from polio yet the risk is not over since some countries are not free from this disease. He also called upon health workers and other NGOs to be more vigilant in their effort to eradicate this “dreaded disease” and further encouraged them to continue with their yeomen service to the society.
Under the supervision of district task force, a total number of 120 Polio booths were set up in the district in various towns and villages where Assam Rifles personnel, Rotary Club members, Indian Red Cross Society, Anganwadi Workers, ASHAs and Women health Committee (MSS) members volunteered.
In order to cover those children who could not receive the polio drops today, health workers and volunteers will conduct house to house visits on March 11 and 12.
Kiphire: The second round of IPPI was launched in Kiphire on March 10 at Chief Medical Office, Kiphire with Dr Kibang, District Program Officer, RCH& UIP administering the first polio drops. The whole operation is to be monitored by 20 supervisors.
The Adolescent club and staff of Chief Medical Office Kiphire volunteered for the coverage in and around Kiphire town including Kiphire Village and Longthonger Village.
The second IPPI campaign is aimed to vaccinate all children from 0 to 5 years. With the motive to reach out to every household, teams were divided involving 400 vaccinators for 100 booths who were sent to every part of the district. Household visits will resume from March 11.
Peren: The second round of the IPPI, 2013 started successfully in Peren district with Dr. Tiala Longkumer, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Peren administering the first polio drops in the district. A press note stated that with the target to immunize 13,293 children; 3 transit points, 5 mobile units and 145 polio booths were set up with a total of 220 health workers and volunteers in all the towns and villages of the district. The note also stated that in order to make sure that all children are immunized; health workers and volunteers would carry out house to house coverage on March 11 and 12.
