31st NASYA-C sports meet opens with Naga wrestling

The 31st sports meet 2022 of Northern Angami Youth & Sports Association (NAYSA) Group -'C' commenced today at Chiephobozou town.

The first day of the 5-day long sports meet witnessed the Naga wrestling with participants from nine villages competing in the senior and Under-16 category.

Thepfüchütuo Khrodi from Tsiesema village won the wrestling in senior category walking away with a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Kevizetuo Metseio from Zhadima Village secured the second position winning a cash prize of Rs 15,000. Vizotuolie Lhousi from Meriema village and Viphrezo Theünuo from Phekerkriezou village secured the third and fourth position respectively, each walking with away with a cash reward of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000.

In the junior category, Kevisoneiu Üsou from Meriema village secured the first position while Menuolelie Chüpuo from Zhadima village, Keneivikho Chadi from Nerhema village, and Rüdilhou Sote from Phekerkriezou village secured the second, third and fourth prize respectively. The winners in the junior category walked away with Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.

Earlier, Er Theruovituo Pienyü, Executive Engineer Municipal Affairs, Nagaland graced the inaugural function as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Pienyü hoped that the tournament will be a time for people from different villages to get to know each other through this platform.

As the NAYSA-C works for the welfare of the youth and sports among the nine villages, he challenged the organization to provide platform and give opportunities to the youth to excel. He further challenged the sportspersons to display their best game and bring glory to the state.

NAYSA-C president Mhasikhotuo Mere informed that for the first time, the overall championship trophy is being introduced in the annual meet. He said that the family of Lt Neiboulie Kiewhuo, the first NAYSA-C president has sponsored the overall champion trophy. He added that players selected from the meet will represent the group in the upcoming Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) sports meet to be held in February.

The inaugural function was chaired by NAYSA-C vice president Virielhoulie Miario. NAYSA-C games secretary Neimezo Huozha and Wrestling Secretary Khrietuolie Usou administered oath to the participants. The inaugural programme was compered by Medolenuo Ambrocia and Medoneisa Chadi.

The meet will continue till January 22.
