329 fresh cases push Tripura''s COVID-19 tally to 9,542; death toll mounts to 83

Agartala, August 26 (PTI): Tripura''s COVID-19 caseload rose to 9,542 on Wednesday as 329 more people tested positive for the infection, while four fresh fatalities pushed its coronavirus death toll to 83, a health official said.

The fresh infections have taken the number of active cases in the state to 2,866, while 6,574 people have recovered from the disease so far and 19 patients have migrated to other states, he said.

Tripura has tested 2,51,660 samples for COVID-19 so far, he said.

A total of 160 people were cured of the disease and discharged from the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) on Tuesday, while 329 patients are under treatment at the hospital, officials said.

The council of ministers reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the state and stressed on better management, increasing the number of tests and creating more infrastructure in hospitals, they said.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has directed officials of the state''s COVID-19 core committee to ramp up sample testing, and appealed to the people to cooperate with the government in its fight against the disease.

A senior official said the government has also decided to conduct an "antibody survey" for starting plasma therapy on the patients.
