33579 ration cards cancelled in Nagaland during last 3 years

•    Only six states/UT, including Nagaland yet to complete Aadhaar seeding of all ration cards
•    All-India Aadhaar seeding of all ration cards at 92%

Only 6 State/Union Territories (UTs) in India, including Nagaland, are yet to complete 100% Aadhaar seeding of all ration cards while during the last three years, a total of 33,579 ration cards/ beneficiaries were cancellation in the State.

Aadhaar seeding of ration cards in Nagaland was 86%, informed data provided by the Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti in the Lok Sabha on July 27. 

The Minister was replying to queries posed by Nitesh Ganga Deb, a member of the Lower House of the Indian Parliament from Odisha, who wanted to know whether the Government has achieved its target of “cancelling the bogus ration cards by linking it with Aadhaar numbers of the beneficiaries.”

The other five States/UTs were Ladakh, West Bengal (79.8%), Arunachal Pradesh, highlighted the written reply by the Minister to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha. 

Among the six states, Nagaland, Ladakh (94%) and West Bengal (79.8%) had relatively higher Aadhaar seeding, while it was 59.7% in Arunachal Pradesh.

Aadhaar seeding of rations cards were abysmally low Meghalaya and Assam at 16.5% and 18.2% respectively.

So far, more than 92% ration cards (at least one member of household) have been Aadhaar seeded at the national level, Jyoti stated in the reply. 

 “Under The National Food Security Act (NFSA), seeding of ration cards ensures uniqueness of beneficiaries in Public Distribution System (PDS), avoiding duplicate/bogus ration cards/beneficiaries,” he underscored.

Meanwhile, the Minister’s reply further informed that a total of 33,579 ration cards/ beneficiaries in Nagaland were either cancelled/deleted in the last three years upto 2020. 

As per the data provided, deletion of cards in the State was highest in 2019 at 18,552, followed by 7,723 in 2018 and 7,304 in 2020 for a combine total of 33,579. 

As noted, duplicate or bogus ration cards/beneficiaries are deleted during the seeding of the Aadhaar cards. 

Among the North East States, cancellation of ration cards was highest in Assam (1,70,057), followed by Nagaland.

Tripura (20,329) was at third, followed by Sikkim (16,880), Meghalaya (13,009) and Mizoram (2,006).

There were no cases of cancelation ration cards/beneficiaries in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur during the last three years.
