34th annual sports of NAYSA Group C kicks off

The 34th annual sports meet of the Northern Angami Youth and Sports Association (NAYSA), Group C kicked off at Meriema village, under Kohima district on January 22. 

Speaking at the occasion, chief guest Ruokuotuolie Mere, Vice President of NDPP Kohima Region, emphasized on imbibing on the importance of good sportsmanship which goes beyond delivering well during the game but to maintain good discipline at all times. 

Mere observed how women in our region especially North East are making strides in the field of sports. 

In this regard, he noted the achievements of sportswomen in both national and international stages.

The speaker also highlighted prospects and opportunities that different sports are offering today. 

He said athletes continue to have high regard and it also provides good professional opportunities in sports today. 

In respect of the state, Mere pointed that despite the development made for sports infrastructure and the opportunities being opened to sports person through different platforms, there was a need to develop highly qualified referees and sports coaches in Nagaland. 

Mere acknowledged the high regard for athletes and the valuable career opportunities sports offer. He stressed the need for the development of professional referees and sports coaches in Nagaland.

The speaker further encouraged players to promote unity and discipline while urging judges and coaches to uphold fairness in sports. 

Aneizo Keditsu and Medolenuo Ambrosia Loucü hosted the opening ceremony, with Neingusalie Khruomo chairing the programme. 

Rev. Keduolhoulie Shüya gave the invocation blessing. The presidential address was delivered by Petekhrietuo Kiewhuo, President of NAYSA C. Tepfukranyü Houzha, President of the Meriema Youth Organization, greeted the crowd. Vilavor Loucii entertained with a special performance. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Luoselie Phewhuo.

The sports meet will conclude on 24 January with KVYO President Er Zhabu Rutsa as guest of honour and Northern Angami women organisation -C was patrons. 

The closing ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm which will be followed by award ceremony and declaration of the selected players for NASA.
A total of 12 villages and 9 teams are participating at the sports meet.
