The 35+ Mokokchung Football League (MFL) kicked off a five-day Grassroots Football Coaching Clinic at Mojabi Futsal Turf, Salangtem Ward, on June 23, with the participation of 125 young football enthusiasts, including nine girls, aged between 9 and 14 years.

The clinic is being held under the guidance of Nagaland coach Brando Kamson and his team from Barack FC, the reigning champions of the Nagaland Super League 2025. The initiative aims to provide foundational training and skill development for aspiring footballers at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, Vesupra Kezo, emphasized on the importance of grassroots development in football.

“Champions are born at this level,” he remarked, while urging both parents and children to focus on a step-by-step approach to skill development. “A player of nine years should be taught the basics, while a 12-year-old should learn techniques like passing and dribbling. A 15-year-old should be taught the practicalities of football,” he added.

Dr Lanu Walling, a member of the 36+ MFL management team and a committee member of the coaching clinic, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative. “This coaching clinic will provide young footballers with the opportunity to learn from experienced coaches and improve their skills,” he said.

Following the inauguration, the participants were divided into groups based on their skill levels. Coaching sessions were held in two categories: beginners (3:00–4:30 PM) and advanced (4:30–6:00 PM).

In addition to Brando Kamson, coaching responsibilities are being shared by MFL members Shiponglepba, Rongsennungba, and Tiatoshi.

Highlighting the league’s commitment to nurturing young talent, the organizers stated, “The 35+ MFL’s vision is to nurture talent at the grassroots level, and this coaching clinic is a step towards achieving that goal.” They added that the league, launched with the theme “Fellowship, Football, and Fitness,” has grown significantly over the past four years and six sessions.

Following the conclusion of the grassroots coaching clinic, the 35+ MFL will organize the Vision League, a platform exclusively designed for the clinic’s participants to apply their newly acquired skills in a competitive setting.
