36 players log-in for 1st Nagaland Online Chess Tourney

Dimapur, May 1 (MExN): A total of 36 players participated in this 1st Nagaland Online Open Chess Tournament organised by Nagaland Chess Association.


The tournament had competition in two categories: Open and Under-16, and was hosted on Lichess platform, an open-source Internet chess server. 


In the open category, Salhuto Nyekha took the top prize while NCA Vice President Mughaho Awomi and Visanyuzo Kuotsu were in second and third respectively. 


Pulonito Hesso Kinimi (13 yrs), a Class-8 student of Coraggio School Kohima topped the table in Under-16 category.  A Class 9 student from the same school, Kunuvuto Awomi (14 yrs) took the second spot.

  
The third slot was taken by Pezavilie Kuotsu (10 yrs), a Class-5 of River Belt School Nagarjan, Dimapur.


The youngest player in top 5 was Jitihto Nyekha (8 yrs), a Class-3 student of West Side School Kiyeto Village, who was ranked fourth in the leader board. 


With lockdown measures to contain COVID-19 restricting any physical sporting activities, NCA announced the online tournament on April 27. 


The total prize money of the tournament was Rs 10,000 - with 10 winners in Open category and 5 in while the Under-16 category.


The games were held in 3+2s (Blitz) time format with duration of 90 minutes from 1-2 pm.
