DYRS wins Kyorugi title, Dimapur tops Poomsae

The Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) emerged Kyorugi team champion, while Dimapur district clinched the Poomsae team title at the 36th Kyorugi and 1st Poomsae Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship 2026-cum-Under-14 Catch Them Young Tournament, which concluded at the Indira Gandhi Stadium here on Thursday.

The two-day championship was organised by the Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.

The DYRS team topped the Kyorugi standings with 21 gold, four silver and one bronze medal.

Dimapur district finished as first runner-up with 13 gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze medals, while Wokha district secured the second runner-up position with 12 gold, six silver and two bronze medals.

In the Poomsae competition, Dimapur district won the team championship, while Kohima district finished runners-up.

The trophies were presented by Major General Harinder Singh Mavi, Inspector General of the Assam Rifles (North), NTA president Pele Khezhie and Joint Director of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports Jakedovo Chase during the closing ceremony.

Addressing the participants, Major General Mavi congratulated the winners and urged them to remain humble despite their achievements.

He said the championship should serve as the first stepping stone in their sporting careers and encouraged them to aim higher by representing not only Nagaland but also the country at the international level. 

NTA vice-president Visabiu Peseyie thanked all stakeholders for contributing to the success of the championship, particularly the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for providing facilities and financial assistance.

He urged participants to carry forward the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship and excellence displayed during the tournament and continue striving for greater achievements.

The closing programme was compered by Vizosienuo Shiiya, while Supou Khiamniungan presented a special musical performance.

Around 500 athletes representing Dimapur, Wokha, Kohima, the DYRS team, Nagaland Police, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Mokokchung, Noklak, Phek, Kiphire, Tuensang, Zunheboto, Shamator and Peren participated in the championship.
