Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) K Therie alleged that, “Today when we look at our state, 48 regional party MLAs are slaves of the 12 BJP MLAs. They’re slaves, they don’t represent us, our leaders are unable to stand for the cause of the people.” He cautioned voters to be careful lest they be submerged in the tide of Hindutva ideology.
He further accused the state government of lacking the political will to bring a peaceful solution to the Indo-Naga political talks; proposing that if given the opportunity, the Congress is willing to do it.
As Christianity came to the Nagaland 150 years ago, the state today has a 95% Christian population, he said. But at the current rate of ‘Hinduisation,’ they could convert the Nagas into Hindus through the use of power and money within the next few years, he claimed. Therefore it is time to realise to protect and defend our faith, culture, custom and identity this is why we have walked today.
Therie was speaking at the conclusion of the Bharat Jodo Yatra (Unite India March) in Chümoukedima on Saturday, which covered a distance of 18 kms starting from DC Court, Dimapur earlier in the morning.
As stated, the Yatra commenced from DC Court Junction, Dimapur via Dhobinala-Kalibari road- Westyard-DMC road-Battacharali-Naga Shopping Arcade-National Highway-Agri expo area and culminated at Chümoukedima gate-1.
Therie said that the yatra is to unite the people of the country from violence, hatred, goons, rapist and discrimination. “We are already in the battle; we need to fight for survival as it is all about ‘Survival of the fittest.’ So we appeal to the Nagas that we must turn around to save Nagaland.”
He further accused the BJP government of exploiting the Citizenship Amendment Act to subvert the identity of India, along with seeking to spread the agenda of Hindutva.
Therie said in relation to Naga society, the ethnic values, religion faith and culture are different, we cannot allow to submerged in the ocean of Hindutva. “It is not my word or anyone of us, but it is battle of every one of us to fight back,” he said.
In this, Therie lamented that if we don't realise the danger now, we are going to finish ourselves sooner or later. Those people who are propagating Hindutva cannot be allowed to live Nagaland, for Nagas have never fought for religion, we have all live happily before the BJP came into the system.
He also sought the attention of the general public to join hands to fight against communalism, prosecution of minorities and stand up to save Nagaland.
Meanwhile AICC Secretary in-charge of Sikkim and Nagaland, Ranajit Mukherjee marked the day as historic because Rajiv Gandhi is walking 3,570-km Kanyakumari to Kashmir, as over the last decade India has been divided by community, caste, creed and religion. He alleged that it has been deliberately divided by those who are in politics through the use of fear tactics.
He mentioned that, the state is in a ‘weird situation’ where it is run through an opposition-less government. Therefore he called upon all to come together even in Nagaland to save the state for development of better road, institutions, electricity facilities, and not believe in ideologies like Hindutva. He also informed soon the party will be taking the initiative of the same even in other districts of Nagaland.
