The 4th Aphuyemi Cup 2022 under the aegis of Aphuyemi Football Club (AFC) kick started today at Pughoboto Town Local Ground. Aphuyemi Cup is a premier football tournament of Pughoboto sub division with a total prize money of 1,70,000.
Gracing the inaugural ceremony as the chief invitee, Roko Angami, president, Nagaland Football Coaches Association (NFCA) and former international football player, challenged the players to be serious and committed to become a famous footballer.
“Don't play football out of the law,” he cautioned and told the players to strictly follow 17 football laws.
He maintained that discipline and hard work will determine the fate of their successful journey in the field of football. The principle of discipline has start from one’s kitchen, which would eventually enrich their conduct on all front, he said.
Asking the youth to make the best use of their talents, he said “Why can't you if others can do.”
A good footballer is needed everywhere, he said and asked the players to broaden their outlook towards the higher level of competitions. He also challenged the players to always keep ‘fair play’ in their minds to the delight of the spectators.
Meanwhile, Roko lauded AFC for providing an opportunity to the football lovers of Pughoboto area through Aphuyemi Cup and to develop football in holistic manner. He also assured to support them through coaching activities as and when require. Roko expressed his desire to see that Pughoboto area produce many good footballers, adding that the same is possible when they (players) are committed, stay discipline, patience and uphold hard work.
AFC president Shiyeto Wotsa said that AFC was started in 2019 to develop football in Pughoboto area.
He told the players to have a clear approach and focus on higher level of competitions.
Earlier, introduction was done by AFC joint secretary Kivika Swu. The inaugural function was compered by Kitoho Zhimo and Lucy Swu. The participating teams of 4th Aphuyemi Cup include; Spireites FC, Natsumi FC, Secret FC Pughoboto, Spartan FC Ghatashi, FC Phute Mishili, Heboluto FC Pughoboto, United FC Chisholi, Chisholi FC and Mukali Center Club.
The tourney will continue till January 24.
