Chessore, May 18 (MExN): The 4th Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) General Conference was held at Chessore village in Tuensang district on May 17 and 18. The early monsoon in the region did not deter enthusiastic members from attending the meet as the conference saw a good number of contingents from ENWO federating units. Chessore village is considered one of the largest village of Yimchungru tribe with 1357 households and is 57 kms away from Tuensang HQ. Chairman DAN & Advisor Finance, T.R. Zeliang was the Chief Guest on the inaugural day while Minister of Power C. Kipili Sangtam was the Guest of Honour. The YWO welcomed the chief guest with their traditional welcoming folk song. The programme also witnessed Changsao Thangjem Sethsang (CTS) presenting a folk fusion and the Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH) presenting the ‘One Act Play’. Shamator-Chessore 58 A/C MLA R. Tohanba welcomed the participants of ENWO General Conference on behalf of Chessore public and NPF Government. He appreciated the ENWO officials and organising committee for selecting Chessore as the venue and at the same time expressed regret for the inconvenient roads. Conveying that the present Government is serious on 33% women reservation in Urban Local Bodies (ULB) for the uplift and progress of women in society, Tohanba lamented the unfortunate disruption to the elections arising out of misunderstandings with local NGOS. He stated that 33% women reservation will be the backbone of Eastern Nagaland Women development and encouraged the women gathered to know and fight for their rights. He added that ULB elections will be held in the near future with better understanding and sensitizing of the Municipal Act with NGOs and the public and in this regard, sought cooperation from concern stakeholders. DAN Chairman, TR Zeliang on his way to Chessore village for the ENWO meet halted at Huker, the native village of R. Tohanba for a few hours and interacted with the public, church elders, village council and youths. In a short public address, Zeliang expressed gratefulness for the warm welcome by the Huker cultural troupe and further stated that the present Government is serious on Youth and women development. Zeliang then proceeded to inaugurate the Kephore-Shiponger road under PMGSY scheme at Huker Junction.
