4th Kohima District Chess Championship 2024 underway

The 4th Kohima District Chess Championship 2024 under the aegis of Kohima District Chess Association (KDCA) commenced today at Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) Complex, Kohima.

35 players registered for this tournament. It will continue till October 26.

Mhasimhalie Matthew Yhome, president, Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest.

Yhome called upon the participants to give their best and also strive for excellence at the higher level.

Stating that the prize money for chess at the international level comes in terms of crores, he stressed on the need to take chess as a career.

Yhome also stressed on the need to support the chess players to reach higher heights. KDCA president Vizosielie Khoubve said that Chess is a game of intellectual, sound mind and smart mind.

He thanked all the concerned for supporting the KDCA activities.

Chief Arbiter Mughaho Awomi informed that the championship will be played under FIDE laws of chess and the Swiss System and a total of seven rounds shall be played.

Earlier, the opening ceremony was compered by Medolenuo Ambrocia Loucii.

Prominent players in this 4th edition includes; Kevilekho Zumvu, Melesai Dawhuo, Seyiekhrietuo Mere, Sede Nagi, K. Sekhamo, Helie Rupreo, Er. Vipulhou Lhoungu etc.

In general category, the champion will carry a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 while runner up will receive Rs 15,000. Third prize winner will get Rs 10,000 while Rank 4 to 10 will receive Rs 1000 each.

In Under 16 category, the winner will receive Rs. Rs 7000. 2nd- Rs 5000 and 3rd- Rs 3000.

The prize money for veteran category (50 years & above) stands at 1st - Rs 7000, 2nd- Rs, 5000 and 3rd- Rs 3000.

Roko Angami, Advisor KDCA will give away prize at the award ceremony on October 26. The programme will be chaired by Vimhazo Tsiikhrii while vote of thanks will be proposed by KDCA vice president Seyiekhrietuo Mere.
