Morung Express News Dimapur | July 23 An amount of Rs 5 Crore was released by the State Finance Department (Budget & Monitoring Cell) vide release No.BUD/8-58/2016-17/ZO/555 dated August 16, 2016 for “improvement of road from City Tower Junction to DC Court Junction Dimapur.” However, it is in the knowledge of all and sundry whether such improvement works were carried out along the stretch from the date of the amount released till date. If at all, any works were undertaken, it is obvious whether the road condition commensurate with the amount released for the said work. It may be recalled that the Dorians Society fills potholes at Notun Bosti from time to time. In the release order, under Demand No. 58- Roads & Bridges drawing limit of 2016-17, it was stated that the Drawing Limit was authorized on the basis of the proposal received from the Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing (Housing) Department contained in file No. WH/R&B-23/2016-17/LOC. According to the release order available with The Morung Express procured from an RTI applicant, the DDO was marked to EE PWD (R&B) Dimapur Division. The existing potholes at DC Court Junction near petrol pump, the popularly called Imli ghas junction, DABA and Cornerstone College areas, portion between The Morung Express and Tinali SSI, Notun Basti junction and Reliance Petrol pump stand as glaring examples as to whether any improvement works were carried out in accordance with the whopping amount of Rs 5 Crore released only for that stretch. The official release order also stated that the amount should be utilized for the purpose as indicated and should not be diverted for any other purpose. The condition of the particular road stretch and the amount released against the work calls for wide public scrutiny and investigation by the competent authority where the Roads & Bridges Department and the contractor should be made answerable to the people.
