5 national awards for eminent women personalities instituted

KOHIMA, AUGust 11 (DIPR): In recognition of the achievements of individual women in the field of social development, the Government of India has instituted five national awards in the name of five eminent women personalities in Indian history who are famous for their personal courage and integrity. These annual awards have been proposed to be called “Stree Shakti Puraskar” and carry a prize of Rs 3 Lakhs and a Citation. The awards would be given to women who have done commendable work in any of the following areas-

Support and rehabilitation of women and children in especially difficult circumstances, Education, Self Help Groups, Women in Agriculture and Rural Industries, Environment Protection, Political Participation, Creating Awareness on Women’s issues etc.

Nominations from general public, eminent persons, institutions etc may be sent to the Director, Women Development Department, Kohima, Nagaland on or before 25th August 2006. Nominations would be screened by the State Level Screening Committee constituted for the purpose and the same would be forwarded for final screening by a National Level Screening Committee.
