
Kohima, April 2 (MExN): Expressing great pride and honor, on being invited to grace the 50th Year Commemoration of Thinuovicha Memorial Govt. High School, Kruoliezou in Kohima; Alemtemshi Jamir, Chief Secretary to the Government of Nagaland in his special address to the celebrants congratulated the School on the completion of its 50th Year, today.
Remarking on the deep and profound history of the School and its founder Thinuovicha Tseikhanuo he said, “What we can learn from the life of Thinuovicha, a man born between two World wars, who managed to complete his matriculation in 1948, despite all odds and went furthermore in pursuing and completing his bachelors from St. Edmunds College.” He added that his legacy remains even after 52 years since his death. He further said that “it’s not the number of years that you live that matters but how you were able to utilize your days on Earth, leaving a legacy that will be talked by generations. “
Alemtemshi further commenting on the man added, “If he had not left the World at such a young age, he would have retired after serving as the Chief Secretary.” Alemtemshi, recollected how back in the early 60’s, he had heard about Thinuovicha as a brave and courageous man who never hesitated to risk his own safety for others. “The society has gained even after his death, it is because of the commitment of people like him that the foundation of our Naga Society has grown”, he said.
Stressing on the need to ensure that the institution survives and excels in memory and respect of the man after whom the School has been named, he further added that the up gradation of the school from its present high school status to a higher Secondary is under process. Closing his address, the Chief Guest, while pointing out the three main characteristics of education as creativity, sanitation and sensitivity, urged the community to bring the school under Public Private Partnership Sector, so that the former glory of the School would be retained.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the Jubilee torch and a prayer of thanksgiving by Lhouvizhü Vizo. Chairing the function Vilanuo Yhome welcomed the guests and the dignitaries for joining them in the celebration. The jubilee hymn composed by Vilhoukho-o Solo was sung by the School Choir. Reminiscing about the early days, the first principal of the School Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu recollecting on how he took the challenge of heading a school back in 1963, gave a brief history of the school and highlighted the various achievements of the School in its early years.
“My five years as head of the Institution remains a treasure to me because by the grace of God, the institution had grown from the scratch to a very popular school during that particular moment. 50 years is a long period and I thank God, the Almighty for preserving my life to see the Golden jubilee Celebration of Thinuovicha Memorial govt. high School, a treasured memory which I will continue to hold dear till the end of my life,” he said.
Dr. Kiyasetuo Dzüvichü, President of the Lhisemia Council submitted a memorandum on behalf of the Lhisemia Council to the dignitaries present, while N. Patton, Addl. Commissioner & Secretary for School Education & SCERT spoke on behalf of the Department. Songs were presented by Medongulie Tseikha and Friends and formerPupils followed by presentations to the guests. Rev. Keviyikielie Linyü pronounced the invocation while the vote of thanks was delivered by Piholi Swunetho, Headmistress of the School.
