Mokokchung Town will be celebrating the 50th edition of the inter-ward cake race on December 23. Chumlamo Humtsoe, ADC & Administrator, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) and Convenor, Steering Committee informed in a press conference held at MMC Conference Hall on December 20.
The ADC Mokokchung informed that the 50th edition of the inter-ward cake race was supposed to be celebrated in 2021 but due to the pandemic two editions were cancelled. He informed that in this year’s edition, the whole of Mokokchung is coming forward to organize the event.
The MMC, District Administration, All Ward Union, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, Bakery and Restaurant Association Mokokchung, Pick-up Truck Owners Association Mokokchung, Mokokchung District Athletics Association to name are few are all engaged in organising the event.
The convener further informed that the event will be a plastic free event where single-use plastic will not be utilised.
The event will start at 7:00 am on December 23 at Main Town Square and Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly will be the guest of honours. 11 participants from 18 wards will participate in the event. Along with the cake race, there will also be a fancy dress competition among the 18 wards on the theme “The Three Magi.”
The Best Maintained Ward will also be awarded in the same event including the Most Progressed Ward.
The event is organised by the MMC in collaboration with the Seasonal Club, Mokokchung. The Seasonal Club Mokokchung initiated the first inter-ward cake race in 1971.
