59th SASA sports meet underway

Kohima | February 22 

The 59th annual games and sports meet 2021 of the Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) got underway today at Jakhama and JGHSS Ground Viswema under Kohima district.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Kevithuto Sophie, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kohima.

Addressing the inaugural function at Jakhama, Sophie challenged the youth to strive for excellence in the fiends of games and sports. He maintained that dedication and hard work are the main tools to take the youth towards national and international arena. Talking about the COVID-19 pandemic, he urged the youth to strictly adhere the SOPs issued by the government.

Earlier, SASA president Rokovizo Meze delivered the presidential address.

SASA general secretary Sahovi John Phinyo chaired the inaugural function while SASA Athletics & Games Secretary Thepfüzhü-o Viswentso administered oath to the participating teams.

Several youths are vying for top honours in the fields of football and volleyball in this two day long tournament.

Kohima Town Club and Kohima District Volleyball Referee Association are officiating the football and volleyball matches.

The meet will conclude on February 23.
