Kiphire DF personnel along with personnel from two companies of the 11th IRB raided Zangor village on February 24 and arrested six persons involved in the February 8 massacre at Pungro village where seven persons, of a family, were murdered “by a mob”.
The murdered included the Head GB of Zangor village along with six of his family members. Initial reports established that they were murdered after being kidnapped by a mob from a DB court where the deceased were sitting a court case over a family matter.
The names/identities of the arrested persons could not be made available for security reasons, it was informed. Further investigations are still on. Situation is tense but due to the presence of the district administration and personnel of the Kiphire DF and 11 IRB, it is stated to be normal till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, the GBs’ Association of Kiphire has called for total bandh tomorrow between Pungro and Kiphire. The bandh exempts the administration, the police and medical services. The association is demanding that the concern authorities initiate action against the DBs of Pungro’s DB court by arresting them “first”. Further, immediate appointment or job placement of the kin of those killed, who were serving as government employees, should be given.
