Under the banner of Vihaan programme, the Network of Naga People Living with HIV/AIDS (NNP+) today organized an advocacy meeting with the Department of Science & Technology, Nagaland State AIDS Control Society, Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Integrated Child Protection Society here at LCSU building. Vihaan Programme Officer, Shan Ezung said that Vihaan is a national programme for extended care and support for PLHIV. Vihaan meaning “dawn’s first light” symbolizes a ray of hope in the lives of PLHIV.
The goal of Vihaan is to improve the survival and quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Vihaan programme is under the strategic guidelines of NACP-IV, funded by global fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, Vihaan programme is under the component and design of CST, NACO, Ministry of health and family, GoI. It renders early linkages of PLHIV to care support and treatment services, improved treatment adherence and education for PLHIV, expanded positive prevention activities, improve social protection and well being of PLHIV, strengthen community systems and reduced stigma and discrimination.
Till August 2017, 6187 PLHIV registered with Vihaan, said Ezung adding that the linkages to social welfare schemes stood at 411 beneficiaries in term of JSY, IGNOAPS, AAY, ICPS, BPL card, ICDS, PMEGP etc including linkages to entitlement upto 174.
Further, 843 beneficiaries are also there under local resource mobilization till August 2017, Ezung said.
Representatives from Department of Science & Technology, Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Integrated Child Protection Society and Nagaland State AIDS Control Society also spoke at the meeting.
The function was chaired by Visevinuo Khrieo, HIV/TB Coordinator- Vihaan while NNP+ president Lanu delivered welcome address.
