‘From recruits to becoming public guardian’

A total of 508 recruit constables passed out from the Nagaland Police Training School (NPTS), Chumukedima on November 9 following a gruelling year-long training. It was the 64th batch of recruits to have passed out from the NPTS.
This batch also included 31 recruits of the department of Excise and Prohibition. The rest of the recruits will go on to join the various branches of the Nagaland Police.
The ceremonial attestation parade was held on November 9 at the NPTS parade ground with Home Minister Y. Patton gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
“You’ve made a big accomplishment… and you are opening a new chapter in your career. I hope you will definitely make good use of this opportunity and take stride,” said Patton in his address.
While stating that thousands aspire to join the police service but not all make it, he said that getting selected from amongst the thousands and moving on to pass training itself is a reminder of the significance of the achievement.
Terming the police as “public guardian, he said, “In line with the motto – Security, Service and Sacrifice, you are now assigned with the responsibility to safeguard the life of the people, to safeguard the properties of the public even to the extent of sacrificing your own life in the service of the people.”
This responsibility, he added demands that “You cannot live casually as you were before” and also expected to be held accountable for.
Remarking on the educational qualifications of the recruits, many of whom hold college and PG degrees, he expressed confidence that they have joined the service with a commitment to serve the people. “Be not discouraged or undermine your job… try to be a source of inspiration to the common people.”
He further lauded the management and instructors of the NPTS. He said that “it is because of these professionals” that the police personnel deployed across the state get to be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to perform their assigned duties.
