67th All India Railway Tennis Championship concluded

Guwahati, March 30 (MExN): The 67th All India Railway Tennis Championship organised by the Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA) came to an March 30 with a closing ceremony during which NFR General Manager Anshul Gupta and General Manager (Construction) Sunil Sharma gave away prizes and trophies to the winners.

According to a press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyaschi De, altogether 52 players and five officials participated in various men and women categories from different zones/PSUs of Indian Railways during the tournament.

The participating zones/PSUs included the ICF (Integral Coach Factory, Chennai), SCR (South Central Railway, Secunderabad), CR (Central Railway, Mumbai), SER (South Eastern Railway, Kolkata), ER (Eastern Railway, Kolkata), RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation, Lucknow), NR (Northern Railway, Delhi) and NFR (Northeast Frontier Railway, Maligaon) being the home team, the release stated. 

The event was categorised as under Men’s Team Championship, Women’s Singles, Men’s Open Singles, Men’s Open Doubles, Veteran Open Singles (Men) and Veteran Open Doubles (Men). 

In Men’s Team Championship, ICF Chennai represented by S Prithvi, Nitin Kumar Sinha and V Udayakumar emerges as champion followed by SRC, Secunderabad team represented by PC Vignesh, Siddarth and KH Praveen as runners-up. 

Manoj Sewa, Anwar Ali and Siddharth Verma from ER, Kolkata clinched the third place in the Men’s Team event while the Eastern Railway’s Yubrani Banerjee bagged the champions tag in Women’s Single beating C Sai Samhitha from ICF, Chennai, according to the release. 

In Men’s Open Singles, Nitin Kumar Sinha emerged as champion beating his counterpart Prithvi Sekhar, both from ICF, Chennai. In Men’s Open Doubles, S Prithvi and Nitin Kumar Sinha from ICF, Chennai beat PC Vignesh from SCR and Nitin Kirtane from CR for the champion title. 

Ram Kumar Prasad and Dr PK Majumdar from SER clinched the champion’s slot in Veteran Open Doubles (Men) beating Md Isac and Srinivas Rao from SCR. In Veteran Open Singles, Ram Kumar from SER bagged gold beating Rajeev Srivastav from RDSO.
