In pursuance with the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the Nagaland Department of Economics and Statistics today started the sixth economic census throughout Nagaland, and will go on till July 14. This census is exercised under the Collection of Statistics Act 2008, and providing wrong information or not furnishing information is punishable under the Act, the department said.
The Economic Census is a complete enumeration of all establishments/entity engaged in any economic activity (except crop plantation, plantation, public administration, defense and compulsory social security services) either producing goods or services or both. The census will cover entire Nagaland State irrespective of their location, size, employment and turnover, both registered and unregistered establishment, it said.
The purpose of the economic census is to provide detailed information on operation and other variables of the various economic establishment in the state as well as sub state level, comprehensively analysis the structure of the economy (Both Macro & Micro Level) and for bench mark purposes, provide an updated director of establishment employing more than eight workers up to the state/district/block/village/ward level for local level planning purposes and provide updated frame list for follow-up surveys.
Earlier, the department requested the public and owners of business establishment in particular to cooperate with the field functionaries (Viz. enumerators, supervisors, charge officers, DSOs or any person as appointed by government) and provide them with the relevant information as per the Census Schedule (i.e. Schedule 6A & 6B).
The department stated that the data collected is for the production of statistics and that there will be no dissemination of confidential information or any non-statistical linkage with existing records in any other agencies. “Individual data collected by statistical agencies for statistical compilation, whether they refer to natural or legal persons, will be strictly confidential and used exclusively for statistical purposes,” the department said.
