7 days total lockdown in Manipur

IMPHAL, JULY 22 (NNN): Manipur will be under complete lockdown for seven days with effect from 2 pm of Thursday (July 23) as decided by an emergency cabinet meeting late Wednesday.

But the lockdown will be extended if need be after 7 days. Addressing a press conference after the cabinet meeting, chief minister N Biren Singh said that the decision to impose complete lockdown in the whole of the State was taken after the cabinet deliberated on the impending COVID-19 crisis in the State.

He hinted that the lockdown which was necessitated to contain further spread of the pandemic may be extended further for one more week if required. The cabinet took the decision in view of ever surging COVID-19 cases in the State, he said and appealed to the people to adhere to the lockdown guidelines which will be notified by the government later.

The COVID-19 situation in the State is grim as more persons with no history of travel outside the State tested positive for the disease in the last few days.
