7340 to appear NPSC exams today

Kohima, April 27 (MExN): In what can be termed as the discouraging indicator of the unemployment scenario in the state, a total number of seven thousand, three hundred and forty aspiring candidates are set to appear the forthcoming Nagaland Civil Services (NCS) exam for sixty-three posts under various departments in the state government on April 28 at nine centres all over the state capital.

The total number of candidates for last year was 6,962, making the number this year by 378 candidates.

However, if all the number of candidates for all the technical and other non NCS posts are added up, then the number of the candidates will come up to about one two thousands more, informed Kevi Leigise, the Controller of Examination, NPSC.

Legisie also said that the large number of aspiring candidates reflects the level of competition of the exams; however, he agreed with the fact that the huge number of candidates is also a reflection of the pitiable unemployment scenario in the state.

It maybe mentioned that the number of educated unemployed youths among the Naga youths is ever increasing with the different educational institutions producing more and more educated youths every year. However, with the filling up of the various departments under the state government, the issue of unemployment has always been a burning issue for each government for the past many years.

At present, Nagaland has more than forty thousand registered educated unemployed youths whose names are registered at the employment exchange department; however, the number might be more than double if all the unregistered and uneducated youths are taken into consideration.

The unemployment problem in the state is feared to linger on for a long time with most of the youths seeking only government jobs and refusing to look beyond the state for employment avenues. With the latest policy of the state government encouraging the youths to look for private entrepreneurship and venturing to other places for employment the unemployment scenario is expected to change a bit. However, still the lack of avenues and basic knowledge and other factors like extortions by underground factions act as a discouraging trend for the unemployed youths. For now, government job seems to the only way out and for the state youths but for how long, that is a question that still remains to be answered.
