The 7th Kohima District Open Volleyball Tournament 2019 (Men & Women) under the aegis of Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA) got underway today at Kohima Local Ground.

Gracing the inaugural function, Alun Hangsing, Secretary, Youth Resources & Sport said sports develops friendship, and is an instrument to carry forward peace and harmony. Believe in yourself and play like champions, he told the players.

KDVA president Visasielie Suohu said that the association has decided to confer a ‘Best Coach Award’ from this 7th edition onwards.

Later, Mhalevilie Kere, Technical Secretary, KDVA administered oath to the participating teams. The tournament will go on till November 28.

On day one of the event, Elite Sisters defeated Khonoma Youth Organisation 25-20, 25 12 while Kezo Town defeated St. Joseph College 25-20, 25-181 in the women’s category.

In the men’s category, Phesama Y.O defeated Elizer, Kiruphema 25-20, 25- 16; Kiruphema Y.O defeat Khawakhrie U.M 25-14, 25-16; Chenino Brothers defeated Falcon, Mima 25-19, 25-13; Kiruphema Y.O defeated United Sporting Club 25-12, 25-22; Khonoma Y.O defeated St. Joseph College 22-25, 25-19, 25-13; Fun Club, Peducha defeated Kezo Town Y.O 20-25, 25-10, 25-20; and Khonoma Y.O defeated Nexus Club 25-18, 25-19.
