85 students from GCHSS visit SAS, NU for educational tour

Students from Great Commission Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima, along with four faculty members, visited the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS, NU), Medziphema Campus as part of an educational tour.

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, MAY 1 (MExN): A total of 85 students from Great Commission Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima, along with four faculty members, visited the School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University (SAS, NU), Medziphema Campus, on April 25 as part of an educational tour.

The visit was organized under the school’s academic exposure programme, aimed at familiarizing students with agricultural education, research, and extension activities.

As per a release, the tour commenced with a visit to the SAS Library, where students were introduced to its infrastructure, online book issue system, academic resources, and in-house recording studio. The group also visited the SAS Museum, which displays seeds of various food crops, indigenous varieties, traditional tools, and highlights Nagaland’s agricultural biodiversity.

Students also visited the All India Coordinated Research Project on Honeybee and Pollinators and participated in an interactive session on the ecological importance of bees, pollination techniques, and honeybee rearing methods.

The tour continued at the Horticulture Research Farm, where students explored fruit trees, spices, greenhouse units, and horticultural practices. At STINER-TFC, technical staff shared insights on local innovations, technology applications, and livelihood enhancement strategies.

The visit concluded with a live demonstration of banana fibre extraction, promoting awareness of sustainable agricultural practices and circular economy models.

The tour was coordinated by Dr Noyingthung Kikon, Assistant Professor, Department of Agronomy, and Dr Kevinetuo Bier, Assistant Professor, Department of Soil Science, SAS, NU, Medziphema Campus.
