Mez & Co FC wins opening match

The 8th edition of Capt N Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament 2024 kicked start today at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
In the opening match, Mez & Co FC (Kohima) registered win over Young Generation FC Yikhum (Wokha) 5-2. Vinato netted two goals for the winning team Mez & Co FC while Vizokhotuo, Menguzelie and Kito added a goal each to the team. Ekon Kithan fetched both the goals for Young Generation FC.
16 teams across Nagaland registered for this tournament, which will culminate on November 12.

Organized by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under ‘Operation Sadbhavana,’ the tournament commemorates the legacy of Captain N Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra, who exhibited unparalleled bravery during the Kargil War.
This initiative aims to provide a significant platform for football teams across Nagaland while fostering sportsmanship, camaraderie, and unity among the region’s youth.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, GOC Spear Corps, along with officials from Assam Rifles and Nagaland Football Association.

Lieutenant General Pendharkar expressed pride in Captain Kenguruse’s legacy inspiring youth and promoting community harmony. As part of ‘Operation Sadbhavana,’ this tournament strengthens bonds with local communities, particularly the youth, he said.
The opening ceremony also witnessed scintillating performances by Tetseo Sisters, Jazz Band and Imna Yaden. The Fifth Note band and Kenie Ritse, Miss Northeast 2023, partners of the tournament, also attended the ceremony.
The Champion will carry a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh along with trophy and citation while runner-up will get Rs. 1.5 lakh. Attractive prizes have also been set for third and fourth place teams.
