Velocity Vipers FC (Mon) and Halcyon United (Phek) today registered win in their respective matches at the ongoing 8th edition of Capt. N Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament 2024 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
In the first match, Velocity Vipers FC defeated Sports Society Soyim FC (Mokokchung) 2-1 to seal their spot in the quarterfinals.
Sports Society SFC initially set the tone with an impressive goal by Imnatoshi in the 22nd minute, putting them up 1-0.
Velocity Vipers leveled things up in the 38th minute with a sensational finish by Shellen Khamba.
The Vipers’ resilience was further rewarded in added time of the first half when Gunling scored in the 40+2’ minute, ensuring Velocity Vipers went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Velocity Vipers FC will now face Mez & Co FC in the quarterfinals.
In the second match, Halcyon United defeated King Hornet FC (Zunheboto) 2-1. Halcyon United took the lead in the 9th minute when Weliso Kapfo found the net by penalty, giving his team a crucial advantage.
King Hornet FC struck back early in the second half through Ikuto in the 50th minute.
Shurhosul netted the winning goal for Halcyon United in the 62nd minute.
