The 8th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly started today in Kohima.
While most of the first session was dominated by discussions pertaining to Naga political issue, among others, the House also deliberated on the Assam-Nagaland border issue, the Registry of Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland (RIIN) exercise, status of Foothill Road, status of COVID-19 vaccination drive, etc.
During the session, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio moved and introduced two government bills— The Nagaland Professions, Trades, Callings and Employment Taxation (Fifth Amendment) Bill 2020 and Nagaland Lokayukta (Amendment No.2) Bill, 2021. NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer informed that consideration and passing of those Bills will be taken up on August 5.
The CM also laid a copy of the Annual Report of Nagaland Information Commission while the Rules/Bye-laws of Nagaland Eklavya Model Residential Schools Management Society were laid by Minister for Tribal Affairs and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along.
Earlier, NLA Commissioner & Secretary Dr PJ Antony reported the assent of Governor of Nagaland on six bills passed by the Assembly. It included Nagaland Goods and Services Tax (Fourth Amendment) Bill 2020, Nagaland Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill 2021, Nagaland Appropriation Bill 1 to 4, 2021.
The House also made obituary reference to seven former MLAs including Toshi Wungtung, Khutovi Sema, K Imlong Chang, P Along, N Yeshito Chishi, Dr KC Nihoshe and T Kikon and paid respects to the departed souls by observing a minute of silence.
