Parliamentary secretary for Higher Education & SCERT, Deo Nukhu today informed that the creation of 93 lecturer posts in various subjects for all colleges across Nagaland has been given clearance by the Planning Department and PN&AR and is currently with the Finance Department for the final green signal.

Stating this during his visit to Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, Nukhu said that the need for education is always growing and maintained that they would continue to have shortage of lecturers all the time. However, he also stated that lecturers would be appointed in a phased manner on fixed pay or contract appointment. In this regard, he stressed, “We cannot keep any class vacant without a teacher.”

He stated that Science College is producing the largest technical manpower and officers in the state and went on to say, “I want to make Kohima Science College a university college having PG in all the subjects.” “We should be able to provide doctorates from this college itself,” he added.

He extended his appreciation to the Alumni of the Kohima Science College, who have been playing a proactive role towards the development of the college by contributing 10 computers and a broadband connection to the college as part of their Project Alpha 1. They also contributed a 50 bedded girls hostel estimated at 1 crore under Project Alpha 2.

Nukhu also highlighted that a separate engineering wing for Higher Education would be pursued in order to look after the works related to higher education and SCERT. Later, the parliamentary secretary inspected all the departments, laboratories, museums, library, computer rooms, etc in the college.
