9392 minority students apply for post-matric scholarship

• Nagaland allotted only 4726 scholarships
• Students advised to apply for “umbrella scheme”  

Kohima, October 21 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland, Directorate of Technical Education today stated that it has come to the notice of the Department that approximately 9392 students have applied in Post-Matric Scholarship (minority).

However, the State of Nagaland has been allotted only 4726 scholarships (Christians-4622, Muslims-90, Jains-5, Buddhist-4, Sikhs-3, parsis-2) for students belonging to minority communities for the current session i.e. 2017-18 under Ministry of Minority Affairs.  

The Directorate of Technical Education in a press release issued by its Director, Er Arjun Singh informed that “in the selection of scholarship by the said allotted quota; nearing 4666 students would be deprived of scholarship under this scheme for the current session.”  

Therefore, students who have registered in Minority Scholarship from the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) are advised to apply for “Umbrella scheme for education of ST children/Post-Matric Scholarships for ST students of Nagaland” from the state portal www.nagaland.gov.in under the Department of Higher Education.  

The last date for registration is October 31, 2017.
