DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 9 (MExN): Children of Peace Channel Niuland, along with public leaders and community representatives, have appealed to the Nagaland State Transport (NST) department to introduce a regular public bus service between Niuland and Dimapur, citing the lack of affordable transport as a major hurdle to their learning and exposure.
During an interaction with Peace Channel Club members, children shared that high private transport costs make it difficult for them to visit neighbouring districts. Public leaders, village chairmen and civil society members echoed these concerns, noting that despite Niuland becoming a new district headquarters, basic transport connectivity remains inadequate, a press release stated.
The issue came to the fore after many children were unable to attend training programmes and Peace Retreat sessions in Dimapur and Chümoukedima due to the absence of viable transport options. In response, Peace Channel engaged two MSW students from NEISSR, Jese T. Sumi and Yantsumong, to conduct a basic needs assessment in the affected villages. Their findings confirmed that the lack of regular NST services is causing educational, social and developmental disadvantages for residents.
Accompanied by Peace Channel Club members and local leaders, the children have now appealed to NST authorities to introduce a daily or at least regular bus service between Niuland and Dimapur, calling it a much-needed “Christmas gift” for the people of the district. They stated that such connectivity would ease travel expenses and enable them to participate more actively in events and opportunities across Nagaland.
The consolidated appeal has been submitted through Peace Channel, with hopes that NST officials will respond positively to the genuine concerns of children and the wider public.
