Dimapur, April 26 (MExN): The Cultural Regale held during the NSF’s 25th general conference witnessed an acceptable participation by students and youth from Dimapur.

Sharing an opinion on the theme of the conference, “Embracing Common Vision”, Daniel, Headmaster of Christian Mission High School, Diphupar, who attended the programme with a group of students said, “We need to feel the want for a common vision. We all should come together and have one common goal”. On the purpose and target of the conference, he felt that it should bring Nagas together and let all have one common goal.  He also stated, “As a whole, we call ourselves Nagas. We have so many sub-tribes within Nagaland and we have lot more Nagas outside Nagaland. We should reach out to those Nagas and bring them together through such a conference”.

Subash Mukherjee, a Math and Science teacher from Unity Christian Higher Secondary School Diphupar A also attended the programme with his students. Residing in Nagaland for ten years now, he said that it was his second day attending the Conference.

He shared that prior to the conference; he had no idea about Nagaland Students’ Federation. “Now I know what the Students Federation stands for, its background and many details.” He also iterated the importance for Naga students to attend such conference and stated, “Students’ should learn about NSF and what role it plays in the society. They should also understand through which way it (NSF) can help them in their life”.

Students who were representing the Ao troupe for the Cultural Regale also shared that ‘Socio-Economic Sustainability’, and ‘Unity’ should be a common vision for Nagas. Another group of student also chimed in that ‘Peace and Development’ is the most important need right now for all Nagas. The students put forth that they are ready for a Nagaland that will allow them to progress as a student, and also as an individual.

It best can be summed up by what a student had to say, “I was not aware of some Naga tribe that existed. This is the first time I heard the names of some tribes, so it was a very good learning experience, even our school textbooks do not teach me all this. Also, I got to learn about NSF and what it stands for.” All in all, the Cultural Regale played an important role, facilitating students and youth to interact and witness different folk songs and dances.
