A journey to Nagalim for Christ

Ashon Chamroy

The prime objective of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) is ‘Nagalim For Christ’, and the mandate of Naga population is with the NSCN. However, there might be some issues in Indo-Naga Peace Talks, which needs to be solved at the considerable period of time. Nevertheless, the Indo-Naga Peace Talks have attained the period of maturity. There is no denying the fact that the Indian Union Government has recognized the ‘Uniqueness History of the Nagas’.

At this very crucial period of peace process, there are some questions necessary to be answered by the Nagas if Nagalim is to be made for Christ. Firstly, Is Nagalim to be made for Christ by Nagas alone? Secondly, Is Nagalim to be made for Christ by some of the vested interest of the Nagas? Thirdly, is Nagalim to be made for Christ without having any vision of the Nagas? These questions became the highest importance because the answers to these questions will be determined the unity of the Nagas.

Each and ever human being has got his own desires. He cannot eliminate all desires from his mind. To Ancient Scriptures there are four significant attainable goals for human beings.

They are Righteousness, Wealth, Desire and Liberation. The first and the last, namely- Righteousness and Liberations are difficult to attain without detachment and sensual pleasures. Hence, man has given them up as impracticable. As such he is muddled in between wealth and desires.

All the misery and fear of human life can be traced to this grievous blunder on the part of man. Human nature is to get satisfaction of desires mostly through senses. Man progressing from childhood to manhood becomes headstrong and forgets the true purpose of education. He is ambitious to become a great scholar, businessman, lawyer, administrator etc and in the process forgets his true human worth.

“Nagas self-determination should not be at the sacrifices of social justice & human values, but at the sacrifices of seeking the eternal, the lasting source & the substance that can be received only from God; because Nagalim is to be made for Christ with Christ.”

Human being becomes slave of his impure desires. While birds and animals are contented with whatever they get, it is man alone who remains unsatisfied. Human greed has no limits. All his desires are decided by his personal prejudice and fancies. Though there are momentary urges, yet man clamour for immediate satisfaction. Man today is chasing the temporary, short duration pleasures (Nagas are not exceptional), instead of seeking the Eternal, the Lasting source and the substance. The greater the desires the less happiness one will experience. We need to limit our wants and desires.

Contentment and satisfaction can be considered as the panacea for all ills of humanity. In the absence of contentment, desire, greed and other qualities play havoc on the human mind and the personality, and lead to his fall, but contentment saves man from falling into the snares or net of desires. A contented man is always seen to be calm and serene, contentment therefore, is more spiritual quality than physical or emotional.

“Nagas should not be allowed to rule out with vested interest, but should be allowed to rule with his heavenly will & as such promotion of the sense of contentment is the urgent necessity of the Nagas.”

Man is not satisfied with the money he earns. He wants more and more to satisfy his desires. But these desires – the thirst for many more things- is unquenchable. Either one is poor or millionaire- both are after money. While the former wants to eke out his living with least one square meal a day, the latter rolls in wealth and invariably contract all sorts of evil habits, the consequences of which may even be fatal.

“Nagas should develop the habit of earning wealth through righteousness & use wealth for promotion of righteousness, because God wants his people to be righteous.”

Gandhiji said that if everyone attempted to possess what he really needed and did not attempt to store for tomorrow, there would be no man dying of starvation in this world. Gandhiji also stressed upon the principle of non-possession by explaining, “Possession implies provision for the future. A seeker after truth and a follower of the ‘Law of Love’ cannot hold anything against tomorrow. God never stores for tomorrow; He never creates more than what is strictly needed for the moment”.

“When there is no vision people perish (Proverbs 29:18) Nagas should have a dream which is to be guided by the vision of the Nagas & should have a vision that shall be forever guided by the spirit of omniscient (God), as it has to be the Nagas inception.”

Nagas should understand where they will be marching towards... Nagas should have a vision that shall be forever guided by the spirit of omniscient, as it has to be the Naga inception. To press towards this goal, Naga should live with the principle of non-possession (this is also to serve one of the objective of NSCN- ‘Socialism’) because Naga do not come by themselves and as such Naga should live for HIM. However, the full realization of principle of non-possession is not an easy task.

Perfect fulfillment of the ideal of non-possession requires that man should, like birds, have no roof over his head and no stock of food for tomorrow. He will indeed, need his daily bread, but it will be God’s business and not his, to provide it. This doctrine of non-possession explains from the standpoint of pure truth. It creates desire for enjoyment and only when we are able to eliminate the desires and arrive at total renunciation, living only to serve, we get the real happiness in life. Naga should press towards this ideal so as to make ‘Nagalim for Christ’.
