In an exceptional feat, the HSLC 2021 examination topper, Keneino Thorie from Trinity School, Kohima is the third person after her two elder sisters in the family to top HSLC exams.
With an almost perfect score of 98.50%, the topper also scored 100 marks in Social Science which she shares is her favourite subject.
Social Science is a subject of interest because it comprises of topics and lessons on history, political science among others, she adds.
This is also concomitant to her future aspiration and dreams. Keneino says she wants to become a civil servant for which, she says she will be joining the Arts stream for her higher secondary studies in the State capital and keep further decisions to its own destiny.
While Keneino's mother, Khrieno, a homemaker is elated with her daughter’s achievement, she says that all four of her daughters have always been on their own when it come to curriculum. "None of them required tutoring outside classroom."
To Keneino, her sisters have been her greatest inspiration. Her two elder sisters, Kesino and Kethono were also among HSLC toppers in 2015 and 2019.
Keneino shares that she loves to cook and bake. Listening to pop songs also gives her relaxation. But like any other student, the topper devotes more time to studying during the exams. However, she adds that starting the preparation with a 'word of prayer' helps her concentrate better.
What makes the achievement more significant is because of the school they come from. Trinity School is tucked away from the main capital town situated in New Reserve, the last colony towards Kohima south. In the 10th matriculate batch, the three sisters are among the four toppers the school has produced till date.
Right from Lower Kindergarten, Keneino attributes her success to her school teachers who have never pressured her but have always encouraged her to study hard.
"Although we did not receive classroom learning for many months, regular tests on two subjects everyday in the month of March was very helpful for exam preparations," she shares.
