DIMAPUR, JANUARY 22 (MExN): The Aghunaqa Area Students’ Union (AASU) has appealed for immediate response from the School Education Department on the grievances related to transfer and shortage of teacher in every village under Aghunaqa area, Niuland district.
In a representation to the Principal Director, School Education, the AASU informed that the union along with the Aghunaqa Area GBs Association (AKK) held a press conference on December 28 deliberating on the issue related to the transfer and the shortage of teachers at government schools under Aghunaqa area.
However, it said that there has been no positive response to “appease the grievances faced by the students of Aghunaqa till date.” It pointed out that Aghunaqa area comprises of 1 high school, 15 middle schools and 21 primary schools which sums up to 37 schools in its jurisdiction.
Counting the number of schools it should have 341 Teachers in total as per the government notification issued on March 28, 2022, the union said. However, it noted that the area is running with a shortage of more than 100 plus teachers “which is complete negligence from the School Education Department.”
“Despite the shortage of teachers in our area, to make the situation worse, another 17 teachers have been redeployed with post to different schools where there is surplus of teachers as per the notification which was released on December 19, 2022,” it informed.
“This clearly shows the biasness and nepotistic behavior towards those teachers/schools by the Department,” the AASU said. Further, “to make the matter worse, it has come to our notice that some teachers have been redirected as an attachment to the SDEO office which is an unheard practice done by the department when our students are suffering from shortage of teachers,” it said.
The AASU expressed concern that the department is still mum on the issue. The union appealed the department to revoke the transfer order of teachers which was issued on December 19. Further, it urged the department to fill up the teachers in every school under Aghunaqa block which has inadequate teachers as per government policy.
“It is the responsibility of the department to provide quality education to the students. As per the SMC guide book, if there is insufficient teachers then the department can appoint well qualified candidates from the respective villages through certain possible measure such as regular/contractual basis so that the future of our students are not hampered,” it pointed out.
The union reminded the department to look into the matter before January 30 “after which the union shall take its due course of action and the department shall be solely responsible if any untoward incident occurs.”
