DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): Under the initiative of the ABAM Clean Election Movement, the ABAM Clean Election Movement (CEM) Committee and the civil societies of Mokokchung held an interface meeting on November 5 at Süngkomen Baptist Church meeting hall.

The meeting was attended by the Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, Ao Kaketshir Telungjem, All Ward Union Mokokchung, and Mokokchug Town Lanur Telungjem.

Rev Dr Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, ABAM while addressing the meeting said that, the interface was convened to take stock of cooperation and discuss the future areas of collaboration as well as exchange views on maintaining clean election in Mokokchung district.

He also said that if there should be a change in the electioneering system, “it is our faithful participation during the election.” Quoting from one of Abraham Lincoln's statements that reads: ‘People cannot change the truth, but the truth can change the people,’ he said, “unless we allow the truth to prevail we will continue to be enslaved by the dreadful electioneering system.”

Rev Dr Noklen Longkumer, Convener, ABAM CEM (Pastor Ungma BC), opined that, unless people robustly repudiate all human power, the worse thing is conspicuous. “Therefore, regardless of the situation, elect God-fearing, a person of integrity, and one who loves people over own family,” he urged, adding that the declaration of village candidates is intolerable.

Rev Dr Kari Longchar, the former Executive Secretary, ABAM meanwhile opposed the present political scenario and appealed to all concerned that, people cannot afford to procrastinate their rightful voices against corruption. It is high time for every citizen to fight and even reject leaders who do not adhere to the need of the people, he said

During the discussion, leaders from all civil societies in consent declared that they are ready to go hand in hand in the fight against prevailing malpractices during the election. They expressed hope that the total coverage of this type of interface meeting, especially to all the youth cells will have a significant impact.

A press release from ABAM meanwhile expressed gratitude to Süngkomen Baptist Church for its hospitality and for hosting the meeting. “ABAM looks forward to seeing changes in the coming Nagaland Legislative Assembly election as we all collaboratively fight against all insidious plans and actions,” it added.
