Impur, June 7 (MExN): In a major initiative to support persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) and senior citizens, the Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) Social Concern, in collaboration with ALIMCO under PMDK Dimapur and the Mokokchung District Disability Forum (MDDF), organised a free distribution of aids and assistive devices at Impur on June 6.

The event was held under the Government of India’s Assistance to the Person with Disability (ADIP) Scheme and the Rashtriya Vayoshree Yojana (RVY).

Rev. Temsü Jamir, Executive Secretary of ABAM, lauded the efforts of ALIMCO and MDDF for their sustained support to vulnerable sections of society, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities. He emphasized the importance of such collaborative efforts in mitigating challenges faced by Divyangjan and enabling them to lead more dignified and independent lives.

A total of 1,103 appliances valued at over Rs 28 lakh were distributed to 352 beneficiaries. These included wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, walkers, walking sticks, knee braces, sacral belts, and chairs with commodes. The initiative aims to promote the physical, social, and economic rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities through access to durable and scientifically designed mobility and support equipment.

The beneficiaries were identified during an assessment camp held on February 18 and 19 earlier this year, jointly organized by ABAM Social Concern, ALIMCO, and MDDF. Following the camp, ALIMCO promptly processed and dispatched the aids for distribution.

ABAM extended special thanks to ALIMCO and Dr. Imli Ozüküm, Chief Medical Officer of Tuensang, for their unwavering support. Acknowledgments were also given to the Chief Medical Officer of Mokokchung and the Medical Superintendent of IMDH for providing medical staff who played a vital role during the camp.

Rev. Jamir expressed deep appreciation to churches across the region for their continued service to the needy and prayed for the well-being of all individuals with disabilities and senior citizens in the district.
